Meet our 2020 Retreaters

January 6-14th, 2020 to travel to panama

We asked them a few questions about how they feel leading up to the trip! Give them a look! If you want to learn about the itinerary for the 2020 trip read HERE.

MEET KARA LAWLER

1) What’s your Profession, home town, location
I grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and am currently a contract Travel Nurse living in Austin, Texas.

2) How did you get interested in visiting Panama with Millennial Future?
Traveling has always been a very important part of my life. Experiencing new cultures up close is one of my favorite parts of traveling. Having never been to Central America before, Millennial Future seems like the perfect fit to get just that experience!

3) Which part of the trip are you most looking forward to?
I am most looking forward to being out in a community that is so remote.

4) Which part of the trip gives you the most unease?
The only part that gives me unease is the mosquitoes. While I am not fond of them, they are quite fond of me.

5) How do you feel about crossing the Spanish language barrier?
The language barrier is something that makes me both nervous and excited. To prepare I have been practicing Spanish with a tutor, so this trip will be a great way to really immerse myself in the language.

6) What is one thing you hope to bring back home with you?
I am hoping to take many experiences, lessons, and memories home with me. I hope I can bring something to the community as well, but I am struggling to figure out what would be best.

7) What is one thing you hope to leave in Panama?
While of course I hope to leave my fear of speaking a different language, I hope there is someone I can also impact those in the community.

8) What is one food you definitely will not try?
Food can be one of the best ways to experience and learn about a culture. So bring on the strange and crazy foods. While I may not look happy doing it, I will try anything once.

9) Name your favorite adventure song.
My favorite adventure song is Anywhere Is by Enya (don’t judge until you listen to it, pumps me up to hike).

MEET DAT DARYL NGO

1) What’s your Profession, home town, location
Data Scientist, Houston, TX

2) How did you get interested in visiting Panama with Millennial Future?
A friend of mine mentioned he was going and it sounded like and experience I wanted to have!

Exploring the country, meeting the people, embracing the local culture, experiencing the nature that Panama has to offer!

4) Which part of the trip gives you the most unease?
Logistics and not speaking the language proficiently.

5) How do you feel about crossing the Spanish language barrier?
I think I will manage to communicate the basics but if there are more complex topics I may not be able to communicate as effectively.

6) What is one thing you hope to bring back home with you?
Experience, a meaningful souvenir to remind myself of the trip, and many pictures.

7) What is one thing you hope to leave in Panama?
I hope to make friends with the locals there, and when I come back to visit they will remember me!
